Action in the Kenya Cup enters match day seven, the fixtures a lot more intense as we head into the business end of this season’s campaign, the competition for playoff slots going a notch higher.
Nondescripts will get the day’s action underway when they play Resolution Kisii in the day’s early kick off at the Jamhuri Park.
This match will pave way for the Menengai Cream Homeboyz – Stanbic Mwamba clash at 4.00pm at the same venue. Homeboyz welcome ninth placed Mwamba to the Jamhuri Park looking to keep up the pressure on the leading trio of KCB, Kabras Sugar and Resolution Impala Saracens. The deejays won on the road, posting a 23-16 win away to hostsTop Fry Nakuru while Mwamba fell to a 27-15 home defeat to KCB.
Leaders and defending champions KCB take on SportPesa Quins at the Lions Den in Ruaraka Quins suffered the 10-8 home defeat to visitors Resolution Impala Saracens last weekend at the RFUEA and will be looking to bounce back against the bankers. These two sides last faced off at this venue in last season’s Kenya Cup semifinal, KCB shading it 19-12 to reach the final. The bankers come into this fixture off a 27-15 match day six victory away to Stanbic Mwamba and will be looking to keep that momentum going against a potentially very difficult customer.
Second placed Kabras Sugar, the league’s only other unbeaten side make the 362.5km journey from Kakamega to take on third placed Resolution Impala Saracens at the Impala Club. The hosts ended a thirty eight month wait for Ngong Road derby success in the Kenya Cup and they again come into this fixture looking to end a string of four consecutive league defeats against Kabras. The two sides have met a total of six times since Kabras made their Kenya Cup debut in the 2014/15 season, Kabras winning five of those fixtures to date. The visitors warmed up for Saturday’s clash with a 40-20 win over hosts Nondescripts at the RFUEA.
The varsity clash between sixth placed Strathmore Leos and eighth placed Blak Blad is one not to miss. The Leos come into this clash looking to set the record straight against a Blad side that owned them last season, completing the home and away double but Blad will surely be out to maintain the status quo. Regional Logistics Mombasa are at home to Top Fry Nakuru at the Mombasa Sports Club.
