The 2024/2025 KRU Championship has been nothing short of a spectacle, culminating in the exhilarating rise of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and Daystar Falcons to the prestigious Kenya Cup. These two sides have endured seasons of heartbreak, grit, and unrelenting ambition, and now stand tall, ready to battle for supremacy in the championship final.
MMUST are no strangers to the Kenya Cup, having graced the top tier before an agonizing relegation in the 2022/2023 season. Their first attempt at reclaiming their spot was thwarted in the 2023/2024 semi-finals by Impala RFC in a gut-wrenching 12-11 defeat on their home turf—a loss that only fueled their hunger for redemption.
With renewed vigor, MMUST charged into the 2024/2025 Championship season with an indomitable spirit, dispatching opponents with precision. They lost only one out of their 11 regular-season fixtures, finishing at the summit. Their ticket back to the Kenya Cup was finally punched after a victory over Zetech in the semi-finals.
Unlike MMUST, Daystar Falcons have clawed their way up from the depths of the Nationwide League, earning their Championship berth in the 2022/2023 season. However, their journey to the Kenya Cup was anything but straightforward, as they suffered consecutive semi-final heartbreaks in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons. The most recent of these setbacks came at the hands of South Coast Pirates in Diani.
But the Falcons, true to their moniker, refused to stay grounded. They soared through the 2024/2025 Championship season with remarkable tenacity, mirroring MMUST’s record by losing just one out of 11 matches and securing a second-place finish. Their long-awaited ascension was finally realized when they edged out Catholic Monks in a pulsating semi-final showdown, officially booking their debut in the Kenya Cup.
With promotion secured, MMUST and Daystar Falcons now turn their attention to the ultimate prize—the Championship title. The fixture is set to curtain raise for the Kenya Cup finals at the ASK Showground Kakamega on the 12th of April 2025.
