We are done with day one of the final round of the National Sevens Series, the George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens at the RFUEA Grounds. This is a pool by pool summary of the action.
POOL A
Defending champions KCB may be out of the hunt for the series crown but they stayed in the hunt for a successful Kabeberi defense, topping the pool with three straight wins over TUK, Blak Blad and series leaders Top Fry Nakuru.
The Wanyore finished second in the pool to feature in the cup quarters alongside KCB.
Pool B
Pole position in the pool boiled down to the clash between Menengai Cream Homeboyz and hosts Mwamba. The deejays rocked Mwamba 21-14 to finish first in the pool, setting up a quarter final clash with Top Fry Nakuru, a repeat of last weekend’s Prinsloo Sevens cup final. JKUAT caused a major upset, beating Western Bulls 14-0 in pool play.
Pool C
When Kenya Harlequin raced into a 14-0 lead over the Pan Africa Strathmore Leos, it was dead set that they would top the pool but Churchill Ooko’s try after Billy Odhiambo’s brace gave the Leos a 15-14 win and pole position.
Pool D
Kabras Sugar reached a second successive cup quarter final, edging Resolution Impala
Saracens 24-19 to clinch top berth, the Sarries reaching the quarters as runners up.
