The Kenya Rugby Union Partnership with Radio Africa Group launched last week brings in monetary benefits to the Kenya Cup sides. The top ten clubs will receive a substantial amount of money at the end of the season, figures dependent on each team’s performance at the end of the league.
The partnership will see Radio Africa Group air the Kenya Cup matches exclusively on Bamba Sports. For the first season, Bamba Sports will air selected matches in four venues: RFUEA grounds, Impala Grounds, KCB Sports Club Ruaraka and the Nakuru Athletics Club.
The 2018-2019 season will see the Champions receive a prize money of One Million Kenya Shillings. The Runners up will walk away with 400,000/- short of a million. The third placed team will earn themselves 400,000/- while whoever finishes fourth gets 300,000/- deposited into their bank account.
The playoff losers, 5th and 6th placed teams, will receive 200,000/- each. Between the 7th and 10th placed teams, a total of 450,000/- shall be divided among the four clubs. 7th gets 150,000; 8th gets 125,000; 9th placed team will get 100,000/- as the 10th placed team will bank 75,000/-.
In the Eric Shirley Shield, the finalists will get 60,000 while the runners up get 40,000/-.
The Kenya Cup season kicks off on the 17th of November and will be played over a period of 19 weeks in a home-away format as was the case in 2016-2017 season.
