Daystar University Falcons secured their slot in the Kenya Cup league on Saturday 29th March 2025 after they beat Catholic Monks in the semifinal.
We caught up with the Falcons Head Coach who is a former Captain of the side, Caleb Bosire, to get his thoughts on how their Championship campaign has been since their promotion in the 2022 season.
“We have been pushing for promotion to Kenya Cup before Championship was even created back in 2016. It took 6 years of countless losses in the Nairobi Region Nationwide League knockouts & 1 National Nationwide Semifinal loss to prepare Daystar for promotion to Championship. In this 2022 Nationwide League, we went unbeaten and thus earned us a spot in the 2022/2023 Championship League.
2022/23 season which was our first season after promotion we lost one game against Nondies to book a home semi final against Kisumu RFC. Unfortunately we lost 19-7 in the fixture played at Strathmore Sports Complex
The 2023/2024 Season had its share of surprises after we suffered a shocking 19-8 defeat in the last fixture of the regular season. The loss meant we dropped from 2nd to 3rd in the standings thus losing a chance to host the semi final. That meant we had to travel to Diani to Face South Coast Pirates. We lost the match 30-15 to ground us to Championship for yet another season.
It’s been 3 season of ups & downs in the KRU Championship for Daystar Falcons enroute to Kenya Cup. We’ve had disappointments in our first two semifinals. But clearly as the saying goes, the third time’s a charm.” he concluded
In the 2024/2025 season, they have only lost one match to MMUST in the regular league. Bosire is confident that the Falcons are ready to soar in the Kenya Cup come 2025/2026 season later this year.
