The Strathmore Leos, currently sitting eighth on the Kenya Cup log, face off with Menengai Cream Homeboyz in Kenya Cup match day six action at the Impala Club, looking to turn the tables on the deejays who subjected them to a 17-48 hiding on match day one at the same venue on Saturday 5 November 2016.
After the opening day loss, Mitch Ocholla’s charges slipped to a further three successive losses before bouncing back last weekend, defeating Nondescripts 43-10.
The deejays would after the mauling of Strathmore, register a second successive win before embarking on a two game losing streak, registering the narrowest of defeats, falling 24-31 to SportPesa Quins on match day three and 39-42 to the Resolution Impala Saracens before bouncing back to dismiss Blak Blad 43-11 in last weekend’s action.
The Leos are admittedly still rebuilding after a massive clear out in the close season that saw the departures of many of their experienced players to other clubs and despite being the hosts, will come into Saturday’s fixture as the underdogs against a Homeboyz side keen on replicating their National Sevens Series success in the longer version of the game.
Key for the Leos will be forwards Brian Nyikuli, Michael Gitau as well as backs Alex Olaba, Churchill Ooko and John Oduk. They will be called upon to lift the side against a fifth placed Homebooyz outfit featuring the likes of Philip Ikambili, Andrew Chogo and Alvin Otieno.
Ideally this game will be won or lost in the forwards and it will be up to either side to settle into a rhythm and get a grip of the proceedings early in the encounter.
Kick off time: 2.00pm
Venue: Impala Club
