A trio of former champions have their backs to the wall heading into Kenya Cup match day eight on Saturday 29 January 2022. This is because they occupy the bottom three places in the league, only two points separating the trio.
Record Kenya Cup champions, Nondescripts, with 17 titles to their name, are up against Topfy Nakuru, champions in 2013 and 2014 at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.
It is a do or die clash for both sides as their survival in the country’s top tier league could be hinged on the outcome of this fixture.
Nondescripts come into this tie placed bottom, having won just one of their six outings to date. They have five points, just two behind tenth placed Nakuru who registered their first win of the season last weekend when they edged Resolution Impala Saracens 29-27 in Nakuru, a result that got them off the relegation zone, but not far off from danger.
10 time Kenya Cup champions Resolution Impala Saracens are placed eleventh, and still in the relegation zone and have all the work to do when they host an in form Mwamba at the Impala Club on Saturday. It is a make or break fixture for the Ngong Road side and they will no doubt throw everything at Mwamba in the quest to ensure Kenya Cup survival.
Menengai Oilers 100% record faces a critical examination in Nakuru when they host Kabras Sugar at the ASK Showground. Both sides are unbeaten but it is the Oilers who lead the log while perennial league runners Kabras Sugar are third, though with a game in hand. Both sides are already assured of semifinal qualification but there is the small matter of home advantage, and that is something that they will be playing .
Kenya Harlequin welcome KCB to the RFUEA ground in the top bill of a double header that will kick off at 1.00pm when Strathmore Leos take on Homeboyz in the day’s early kick off.
Varsity sides Masinde Muliro and Blak Blad will duel in Kakamega.
