Menengai Cream Homeboyz snapped KCB’s 11 match unbeaten record, registering a 33-24 win over the bankers at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka on Saturday 18 February. This was the deejays first ever Kenya Cup win over the bankers at Ruaraka.
Young backrow Steve “Security” Otieno got the deejays party started, scoring from the rolling maul with Kelvin Masai converting for a 7-0 score but the bankers responded in similar fashion, Andrew Amonde going over with Darwin Mukidza converting.
The first half remained a frenetic affair, the frequency with which the scores kept changing reminiscent of a furious rap battle.
The deejay’s pressure led to a KCB error off Marlin Mukolwe’s poor delivery, Keith Wasike going over the chalk, Masai with the extras, the deejays going 14-7 up but Mukidza would soon score and convert to restore parity, 14-14 after 24 minutes of play.
Collins Shikoli would then land the deejays third try, Masai converting for a 21-14 score before Jimmy Kilonzo replied for the bankers, Mukidza missing the ensuing conversion. Homeboyz taking the 21-19 lead into the break.
The bankers took the lead for the first time, Kilonzo landing his second try to put them 24-21 but that was about it.
The deejays upped the ante, making the bankers dance to their beat. They dominated play , retaking the lead through former KCB player Oscar Ayodi, Masai sure with the conversion before signing off from Ruaraka in style through Augustine Lugonzo’s try at the death.
