All the teams that won their matches in the first Kenya Cup weekend have today completed the double over their opponents. Nondies, Resolution Impala Saracens, KCB, Top Fry Nakuru, Kabras Sugar and Kenya Harlequins have won both their home and away matches against Menengai Cream Homeboyz, Blakblad, Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos, Mean Machine and Stanbic Mwamba respectively.
At the KCB Sports Club Ruaraka, the double header kicked off with a 38-19 Impala win over their hosts Blakblad followed by a narrow 17-16 Nondies win. Homeboyz drew first blood in the opening minutes of the match but Nondies responded later leveling up the scores to 7-7. Nondies would then extend their lead to 12-7 as their landed their second try off the clearing of the ruck; the conversion sailed wide.
An infringement by the Tatu City Nondies RFC resulted in Homeboyz booting in a penalty kick that narrowed the gap to 12-10 at the breather. The second half saw Homeboyz drill in another two penalty kicks off Nondies’ mistakes giving them a 16-12 lead. Their attempt to hold on this lead evaporated in the last minute of the match when Nondies scored their third try from a scrum securing their second win over the DJz this season. The conversion sailed wide, Nondies running to the pitch proud and relieved of their 17-16 win.
The Stanbic Mwamba vs Kenya Harlequins match was one high scoring match, both teams picking a bonus point having scored four tries each. However Quins proved to be Sure Strong and Superior as they secured their 43-34 win over the Black shirts. Kabras Sugar beat the Mean Machine 41-22 at the University of Nairobi Grounds.
In Nakuru County, Top Fry Nakuru beat the Strathmore Leos 33-18 at the Nakuru Athletics Club while Menengai Oilers went down 20-29 to the visiting Bankers.
