Plucky Blak Blad make the short journey down the Thika Highway from the Kenyatta University to face leaders KCB at the KCB Sports Club in match day 11 action on Saturday 4 February 2017.
Coached by Kenya playing and coaching Legend Michael “Tank” Otieno who is largely credited with moulding the bankers into the force that they are today, and who indeed coached the side to three straight league titles between 2005 and 2007, Blak Blad have been a plucky opponent to deal with this season and come into the clash sitting tenth on the log and capable of causing problems, probably even disrupting the bankers rhythm on game day.
They were not in action on match day 10 after last weekend’s clash with Menengai Cream Homeboyz was postponed to allow the deejays attend Andrew Wekesa’s interment and will be out to leave Ruaraka with a win for the first since that famous 30-26 win over KCB on the opening day of the 2002 season. Moses Begi, Levy Amunga, Stormy Odhiambo and skipper Wesley Kidinga have been key for the students all season and must again be the spheres of influence for the squad that takes on the bankers.
KCB will have other ideas. They have been in fine form to date and are the league’s only unbeaten side to date. They will however need to guard against complacency when they face the varsity students and will probably approach this encounter with the same intensity they have approached their nine previous outings to date.
They played to a 22-17 home win over Kabras Sugar in a grueling match day 10 fixture last weekend and will be out to snuff out any threat that Blad may pose. Even as Head Coach Curtis Olago may be tempted to rotate his outfit, he may probably still look to the likes of Peter Waitere, Oscar Simiyu, Ken Moseti and Darwin Mukidza to play a role on Saturday.
