Champions Kabras Sugar stayed unbeaten with a 37-32 win over Mwamba in thrilling Kenya Cup match day eight action at the Nairobi Railway Club on Saturday 14 January 2017.
It was the host who took the early lead, Brian Kivasia’s penalty seeing Mwamba go 3-0 up before the visitors went ahead courtesy of unconverted tries from Philip Wokorach and Sava Racigi.
Mwamba kept in touch, Marcus Muriithi touching down, Kivasia adding the extras to tie the score at 10-10 before former Kisumu RFC lock Brian Tonya touched down for Kabras, Wokorach soon adding a penalty, bringing the scores to 18-10 in what was so far a frenetic, high tempo first half.
Malik Habil converted try secured a bonus point for Kabras, Mwamba’s Humphrey Kayange responding with Kivasia converting as the visitors took a 25-17 lead at the breather.
Kayange landed his brace after the restart, bring Mwamba to within three points of the visitors, his side rock solid in their determination.
They would however fall further behind to Levi Ochieng’s converted try but Kevin Wambua’s charges simply refused to go away, responding through Kivasia’s penalty goal, the scores 32-25 with precious little on the ticker.
The games closing moments were not without their drama, big George Nyambua going over for Kabras, Lavin Asego responding with a converted try for Mwamba, a touch down that saw Mwamba grab two bonus points for losing by seven points and landing four tries.
