Leading 22-5 at the break, Kabras Sugar completed the Kenya Cup three-peat with a 29-5 victory over KCB in the final at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday 6 April 2024. This result was also Kabras Sugar’s largest winning margin against their rivals.
Wasting no time, the Sugarmen asserted their dominance by securing the game’s first points a mere three minutes in. Walter Okoth dashed over for a try behind the posts after Brian Tanga had done the hard work. The conversion was slotted in by Ntabeni Dukisa, propelling Kabras to an early 7-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, building on their momentum, Kabras extended their lead to 15-0. It began with a penalty, followed by a try from Kevin Wekesa after a clever chip by Dukisa.
Despite missing the conversion, Dukisa’s efforts compounded KCB’s troubles as Griffin Musila was shown a yellow card, reducing the bankers to 14 men.
Seizing the opportunity, Kabras capitalized on their numerical advantage. Dukisa collected a well-weighted pass to score their third try. This time, Dukisa’s conversion attempt was successful, extending Kabras’ lead to 22-0 by the half-hour mark.
However, Kabras soon found themselves facing their own deficit as Dukisa was sin-binned shortly after. This presented KCB with an opportunity to get on the scoreboard, which they seized with finesse as Vincent Onyala evaded the defense to score a try wide on the overlap.
Darwin Mukidza’s conversion attempt went wide, and at halftime, Kabras led 22-5.
Within minutes of the second half commencing, KCB’s fortunes took a nosedive as Elvis Olukusi found himself sin-binned for an infringement.
However, Kabras failed to capitalize on the opportunity presented. Despite multiple handling errors within the KCB 22, the scoreline remained unchanged.
Kabras secured their fourth try of the game immediately after Olukusi’s return to the field. Brian Tanga’s swift restart caught the KCB defense off guard, allowing Kabras to score.
Dukisa successfully converted the try, extending the score to 29-5. With this victory, Kabras defended the cup, claiming their third consecutive and fourth overall Kenya Cup title.
