There were big wins for defending champions and leaders Kabras Sugar and KCB as the Kenya Cup continued with match day nine action on Saturday 24 February 2024.

KABRAS SUGAR 47 MENENGAI OILERS 3

The resounding result at the Kakamega Showground assured Kabras Sugar of a top two finish with two games to spare, but more importantly secured the sugarmen a home semifinal berth.

Ntabeni Dukisa’s unconverted try put Kabras 5-0 up before Alfred Orege scored a second try, Dukisa adding the conversion for a 12-0. Another Dukisa conversion from a Patrick Lumumba try gave Kabras a 19-0 lead at the interval.

Abutwalib Wesonga drilled home a penalty for Oilers to bring the score to 19-3 but Dukisa’s two conversions from Lumumba and Teddy Akala’s tries gave the hosts a 33-3 lead.

Dukisa then converted Barry Robinson’s brace to seal the win for Kabras.

KCB 45 KENYA HARLEQUIN 15

Leading 33-3 at the break, KCB claimed a 45-15 win over Kenya Harlequin at the KCB Sports Club on Saturday 24 February 2024. The result saw KCB stay second, unbeaten and assured of a home semifinal.

KCB scored their first half points through tries from Davis Chenge, Austin Sikutwa who landed a double, Bob Muhati and Brian Wahinya complimented by four conversions from Lionel Ajeliti while Cornelius Mokoro scored a penalty for Quins.

Ajeliti then converted Festus Shiasi’s try after the restart to put KCB 40-3 up before Jan Remke’s try brought the score to 40-8.

Sikutwa landed his third try to put KCB 45-8 up before Remke converted Patrikc Wainaina’s try for Quins as the game ended 45-15.

Meanwhile, Strathmore Leos ended their six match losing streak with a 34-14 win over Homeboyz that moved them closer to safety and left Homeboyz staring at relegation with two matches still to play.

Mwamba won their four successive match, defeating a plucky Kisumu side 32-27 at RFUEA to stay in contention for the playoffs.

Nondescripts consolidated fifth place with a hard fought 22-10 win over Kenyatta University Blak Blad at the Kenyatta University while Nakuru were 31-10 winners over the Catholic Monks.
