Kabras Sugar finished the Kenya Cup regular season unbeaten with a 14-10 win over KCB Rugby at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday 9 March 2024.
It was the bankers who went ahead through the evergreen Darwin Mukidza’s try, Trevor Odawa converted for a 7-0 lead before Kenya captain George Nyambua scored an unconverted try to bring the score to 7-5.
Two penalties from Ntabeni Dukisa gave Kabras an 11-7 lead at the break.
Dukisa and Mukidza then traded penalties as the match ended 14-10, KCB becoming the first team to deny Kabras a bonus point.
Meanwhile, Kisumu secured their Kenya Cup status with a 23-17 win at home to Strathmore Leos while Menengai Oilers condemned Catholic Monks to the second tier with a 34-23 win at the Catholic University.
There was last minute drama at RFUEA when Nakuru claimed a last gasp 31-20 win over Mwamba. They were leading 24-20 while under pressure from Mwamba before sealing the win with an intercept and converted try to ease their nerves.
Kenyatta University Blak Blad’s playoff hopes got a massive boost as they were awarded a 28-0 walkover against Homeboyz. They simply need to avoid defeat against Kisumu to secure the sixth and final playoff slot.
