Kisumu RFC has officially announced the departure of Head Coach Lawrence Buyachi. A former Kenya international forward and a two-time Kenya Cup champion with Nakuru RFC, Buyachi led the Bravehearts to a commendable second-place finish in the 2022/23 KRU Championship, securing promotion to the 2023/24 Kenya Cup.
The club’s secretary, Jaycox Mwavali, confirmed Buyachi’s departure, stating, “I would like to inform our members, fans, and the wider public that Kisumu RFC and its head coach Lawrence Buyachi have amicably agreed to go their separate ways.”
Buyachi has joined the coaching staff at Nakuru based Kenya Cup side Menengai Oilers.
Mwavali expressed gratitude for Buyachi’s significant contributions to the club, wishing him success in his future endeavors. He also announced the appointment of former Kenya international center Fabian Olando as the interim Head Coach.
Mwavali explained, “The team’s management has entrusted Fabian Olando with the responsibilities of the Head Coach position on an interim basis while we work towards finding a suitable replacement. Fabian is no stranger to the Kisumu RFC setup, having previously served as the assistant coach under Lawrence Buyachi. His wealth of experience was evident when he recently guided the Kisumu RFC 7s team to an impressive 10th place finish in the highly competitive SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.”
