It was always going to be close when Mwamba and Menengai Cream Homeboyz faced off in Kenya Cup match day 12 action at the Nairobi Railway Club on Saturday 20 February 2016. Indeed, Mwamba’s 13-11 win testament of this.
The deejays raced into a 6-0 lead courtesy of Haroun Lubisia’s boot. He kicked over a 10th minute drop goal before adding a penalty on 15 minutes but Mwamba kept their heads and stayed in the hunt, Shaban Ahmed eventually getting the black shirts on the board with a 21st minute penalty. Hyke Otieno touched down five minutes later to give Mwamba an 8-6 lead heading into the interval.
Edwin Machanje’s 50th minute unconverted try saw Kulabu go 13-6 up as the match remained a fair and close contest.
The deejays kept prodding and when Jeff Oluoch touched down with a minute to play, Kelvin Masai was tasked with adding the extras to secure a draw but fluffed his conversion, Mwamba taking the win and the four points. Despite the win, Mwamba dropped to seventh following Top Fry Nakuru’s 43-14 demolition of Kenya Harlequin while the deejays also dropped to fourth.
