Strathmore Leos have the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the KRU Championship when they play away to eleventh placed Mombasa at the Mombasa Sports Club this Saturday. The Leos have a 100% record heading into match day four, having garnered three wins and two bonus points for a points tally of 14.
Second placed Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) make the 155km drive down to Kisii to face hosts Kisii RFC at the Gusii Stadium. MMUST also boast a 100% record but trail the Strathmore Leos by a solitary point. Kisii failed to travel to Nairobi for last weekend’s clash against the USIU Martials and are currently placed bottom of the pile. They will look to lift themselves out of the league’s basement with victory against a MMUST side whose sights are set on securing Kenya Cup qualification at the close of this campaign.
Third placed University of Eldoret Trojans were brought crashing down to earth last weekend when their unbeaten record was shattered by the Egerton Wasps who defeated them 21-15 in Njoro. They have the opportunity to bounce back to winning ways when they host USIU Martials in Eldoret. A tough fixture this once, especially when you consider the fact that USIU have by their standards had a less than satisfactory start to the new season, having registered two straight losses before benefiting from a walkover against Kisii. There is all to play for in Eldoret.
Over in Ukunda, the South Coast Pirates will be looking to maintain their bright start to the season when they host Championship debutants Northern Suburbs at the St. Joseph’s Primary School. The Pirates currently sit in fourth place on the log with 9 points off two wins and a defeat while Suburbs are currently ninth, having won once and lost twice in their three outings to date.
Eighth placed Egerton Wasps will play host to tenth placed Eldoret RFC in Njoro while former Kenya Cup sides Catholic Monks and Mean Machine face off at the Catholic University.
