It is match day six, technically the half way stage in the league phase of the competition.
Some teams will be looking to redeem an already difficult season; others will be out to ease their path to the playoffs…
Masinde Muliro is one of those teams looking for redemption. Five games into the season and the students from Lurambi are yet to register a win this season, having lost all their outings to date, including two gutting losses, 23-21 to Strathmore and 24-23 to Mean Machine.
It doesnt get any easier for them as they welcome red hot Quins who are on a two match winning streak, averaging 45 points in those two wins that have lifted them to fifth and within touching distance of a playoff slot.
A win for Masinde Muliro gives them the chance to kick-start their battle for Kenya Cup survival while for Quins, a victory gives them the much needed momentum heading into the business end of the season.
The Strathmore Leos have been off color this season, let’s not beat around the bush. One win and three losses sees the back to back semifinalists in 10th, not a position we are used to seeing them in. They take on the 11th placed Catholic Monks in Madaraka. They obviously are the superior side but will have to guard against complacency and go all out for the win that could see them rise up the log and reignite their playoff qualification hopes.
Other fixtures pit defending champions Kabras Sugar make the trip to Nakuru City to take on the Wanyore. Kabras, who were not in action last weekend, are currently placed third on the log, with four wins from four outings and they will be out to leave Nakuru with maximum points. Nakuru though, will have other ideas. They were full of character in the 25-18 Nakuru derby Loss to Menengai Oilers and will certainly draw from the positives as they seek to halt Kabras and make a case for the playoffs, perhaps.
Current leaders KCB and Mwamba will face off in the day’s opening fixture at The Cage in Madaraka. Clashes between these two sides have nearly always been feisty affairs and we shouldn’t expect Saturday’s to be any different. KCB will be out to maintain their perfect run but Mwamba, currently fourth on the log will be out to disrupt the banker’s momentum, and with no pressure on them, they certainly can.
Homeboyz will be up against Mean Machine at Jamhuri Park while Blak Blad host second placed Menengai Oilers at the Kenyatta University.
