George Mutuku’s last gasp penalty spared Stanbic Mwamba’s blushes and broke Kenya Harlequins hearts as Kulabu edged Quins 15-13 in a pulsating Kenya Cup match day six encounter at the RFUEA Ground.
It was Quins who went ahead in this fast paced match through Lyle Asiligwa’s penalty before Meshack Obota scored and converted his own try for a 7-3 Mwamba lead.
Herman Humwa barged over after a period of sustained pressured with Asiligwa converting for a 10-7 lead that they took into the interval.
With play resuming after the restart, former Kenya backrow Tony Owuor received the ball at pace, gathering 10 or so meters before setting up a plaftorm for Joel Inzuga to score down the right flank, Mwamba going 12-10 up.
It remained a fair contest over the intervening period, both sides squandering trying scoring opportunities. Quins went into the final minutes with their tails up,incessantly prodding Mwamba and got their just reward from Asiligwa’s drop goal for a brief 13-12 lead before former Kenya U20 international Mutuku stepped up to split the Quins posts with virtually the last kick of the match.
