The 2025 Kenya Cup playoffs kicked off in high spirits with thrilling encounters . In the Ngong Road derby, Nondescripts RFC hosted Kenya Harlequins in what turned out to be a fierce and gripping contest. Meanwhile, down in Nakuru, Menengai Oilers faced off against Blak Blad RFC in a battle of resilience.
In one of the most eagerly anticipated clashes, Nondescripts RFC hosted Kenya Harlequins in a thrilling ngong riad derby. Both teams fought hard, but it was Nondies who emerged victorious, securing a 38-22 win that sealed their place in the semi-finals.
Nondies registered the first points of the game with a penalty kick before Quins responded with the first converted try of the match to take the 3-7 lead over the hosts. Quins were penalized three times in the first match and Bruce Odhiambo didn’t miss of these points while Quin’s Faran Juma and Kenya Under 20 international drilled in a 40M kick bringing the scores to 12-10.
Charles ‘Jamandass’ Omondi and Richel Wangila landed center post tries for their respective sides with both conversions slicing the uprights successfully for a 19-17 half time score.
In the second half, Quins scored one unconverted try while Nondies made their intentions clear by scoring three tires; two were converted successfully bringing the score to 38-22 in favour of the hosts.

In Nakuru, Menengai Oilers showed resilience and determination as they triumphed over Blak Blad RFC in a tough encounter that ended 31-19 in favor of the Oilers.

With both Nondescripts and Menengai Oilers securing their places in the next stage of the competition, attention now shifts to the semi-finals. Nondescripts will head to Kakamega to take on the defending champions Kabras RFC, while Menengai Oilers will travel to Nairobi to face KCB, who finished second in the regular season.
