Menengai Oilers made it two wins from two with a 67-0 win over hosts Mwamba at the Impala Club on Saturday 9 December 2023.
The Oilers grew in ascendancy right from kick, going ahead through John Okoth for a 5-0 lead. They see more of the ball and gain territory. They would score second try on 12 mins through Samuel Were, the ensuing conversion from Abutwalib Wesonga successful as they led 12-0.
The try spurred Oilers on, and they scored again, this time through Ibrahim Ayoo on the third phase after a flowing move from inside their half. A second Wesonga conversion took them 19-0 up.
Another Wesonga conversion from Oilers bonus point try takes them 26-0 up after 23 mins.
Final 17 mins
Oilers landed their fifth try through Johnstone Mung’au, Wesonga converting for a 33-0 lead on 30 minutes.
After Mwamba were penalised in their five, Onsomu took a quick tap, setting up Okoth for the try to close the half at 38-0.
SECOND HALF
Oilers continued from where they left off with a try from Were and a Wesonga conversion to make it 45-0 inside the opening four minutes of the second half.
The inclusion of Lucas Opal for Moses Keragori gave Mwamba forward momentum and looked threatening for the first time in this match, but they still had a mountain to climb.
The pace of the game dipped as Oilers, ruthlessly efficient in the first half, committed a series of unforced errors.
They were soon on the scoreboard again, Beldad Ogeta’s unconverted try taking them 50-0 up with ten to play.
Ogeta landed his brace from the restart, 55-0 as the game wore on.
Ogeta reacted quickest to Wesonga’s crosskick, Timothy Lugalia converting for the 62-0 score.
Khavoli landed his brace for the fulltime score.
