As we head into the fifth match day of the 15s season, we sat down with the Kabras Sugar RFC Head Coach Henley Du Plesis talking about this season.
Kabras is currently sitting comfortably at the top of the Kenya Cup log having won their first four matches with a bonus point. A performance that mirrors that of KCB and Homeboyz who are second and third respectively.
“The Stanbic Bank National Sevens Circuit had a lot of influence on how we built up to this season but we also had a good number of players that started off with the off-season. This season is definitely better than the last since the players and I now understand each other better and we know what to expect from ourselves,” said Henley
Heading into this season, Henley said they knew it will be tougher as teams’ are improving when it comes to their preparation for the Kakamega fixtures and in their general preparation as well. The player transfers as well as some of the Coaches moving around from one club to another means that teams will have a different ball game compared to what they displayed last season.
“Our motto this year is to win games. We’re not looking at picking up the bonus points as was the case last year, we just want to win and ensure we are still in the playoffs,” he added.
When it comes to his side’s preparation, his technical team is doing their best to ensure they manage the players well after their travels to Nairobi and back. For now, Kabras host Blakblad at the Kakamega Showgrounds before heading to Ruaraka on 30th for the biggest clash of the regular season against Defending Champions KCB.
