Pan Africa Strathmore Leos welcome champions Top Fry Nakuru to the Impala Club for a match day 12 fixture on Saturday 14 February 2015. This is without a doubt the pick of the fixtures and is expected to be a cracker.
The Leos currently lie third on the log on 48pts, having won 9 and lost 2 of their 11 outings to date and will come into this tie hard pressed to bounce back from last weekend’s 17-38 mauling away to KCB. They may have secured semi final playoff qualification but still have a few things to set straight.
Head Coach Mitch Ocholla spoke to us earlier in the week and noted that his side was out to take on Nakuru and showcase their mental and physical strength heading into the knockouts where it is required the most. They will certainly need that against the Wanyore and will look to skipper Brian Nyikuli and to inspire them. Other players key for the Leos will include Frank Wanyama, Cyprian Kuto as well as prop forwards Anthony Orege and John Okwara. They will almost certainly be glad to welcome back Kenya fly half Kenny Andola from a two match ban.
Defending champions Nakuru lie second on the log with 53 points coming off 11 wins. They have the same points tally as leaders KCB, only separated by an inferior for/against aggregate. They warmed up for this clash with a 41-10 win at home to Kenya Harlequin last weekend and will come into this clash ready to engage against a Leos side who are expected to be tough customers on the day.
Head Coach Dominique Habimana will look to the leadership of Mike Okombe and Edwins Makori in the forwards as well as the vision of fly half Martin Mutia. Kelvin Omiyo is expected to play an influential role in midfield. The Wanyore have a number of experienced players returning from injury and other commitments most notably Giles Littlewood, Isaiah Nyairki and Calvin Otieno, players who, if selected, will be vital in their quest to emerge victorious as they seek to make a push towards a third successive league title.
This match kicks off at 4.00pm.
