Impala Saracens reached the Enterprise Cup semifinal with a hard fought 20-16 victory over Topfry Nakuru at the Impala Club on Saturday 26 March 2022.
It was Nakuru who went ahead through two penalties from Fred Odongo in the 6th and 13th minutes. Impala would ask questions of their visitors but were unable to get over the whitewash.
Hannington Wabwire would then beat three Impala defenders, racing clear to score under the posts with Odongo converting as Nakuru led 13- 0.
A decent spell of possession saw Impala pin Nakuru back, Elkeans Musonye landing a try on the stroke of halftime for the 13-5 score at the interval.
Martin Juma converted Brian Ochieng’s try after the interval to bring Impala to within a point, the scores 13-12 after 43 minutes of play.
They however fell further behind when Odongo drilled home his third penalty in 46th minute for a 16-12 Nakuru lead but Anthony Odhiambo’s penalty for Impala brought the score to 16-15 on the hour mark.
Impala were in the ascendency heading into the final ten minutes, Quinto Ongo barging over the whitewash to give them their first lead of the afternoon, the scores 20-16 with time ticking on the clock.
Impala, beaten finalists in 2019, will host KCB in next weekend’s semifinal at the same venue. KCB built on a 40-5 halftime lead to crush Blak Blad 87-12 at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka.
Defending champions Kabras Sugar eased to the semifinal with a 34-17 victory over Nondescripts at the Kakamega Showground. They will host Homeboyz in the other semifinal in Kakamega. Homeboyz advanced to the semifinal following Mwamba’s withdrawal from the competition.
