The stage is set for the Kenya Cup semifinals on Saturday 28 August 2021 in Nandi and Nairobi respectively.
Kabras Sugar, table toppers at the close of the league’s round robin phase, take on Strathmore Leos who on their return to the top tier, finished fourth, earning playoff qualification.
Kabras will come into this tie with their tails up, undefeated all season and looking to join a select band of teams that have lifted the Kenya Cup unbeaten. Dominique Habimana’s charges will look to their battery of Kenyan internationals including George Nyambua, Dan Sikuta, Jone Kubu as well as their foreign legion led by Uganda’s Asuman Mugerwa and South African Ntubeni Dukisa.
For the Strathmore Leos, Andrew Matoka who has been capped at U20 and senior levels for Kenya will be the man to lead the varsity students at a venue that has served as a fortress for the Sugarmen.
Over in Nairobi, defending champions KCB who were placed second at the close of the league phase will be up against Nakuru’s Menengai Oilers. For KCB, it has been a routine campaign, save for the loss to Kabras and they will be out to return to the final for the fourth successive time since 2017. Key players for the bankers include captain Curtis Lilako, Samuel Asati, Jacob Ojee and Vincent Onyala while Oilers will rely on experienced forward Dalmas Chituyi as well as the exuberant group of Samuel Were, Timothy Okwemba and Derrick Keyoga as they look to upset the apple cart in Nairobi and set up a maiden Kenya Cup final appearance.
