Strathmore Leos and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology will play in the 2021 Kenya Cup after winning their qualifiers on Saturday.
Strathmore defeated Northern Suburbs 23-6 at Madaraka while MMUST were 21-12 winners over Mean Machine in Kakamega.
Suburbs survived early Strathmore pressure,eventually going ahead through Tony Fidels penalty. Arnold Muita responded for the Leos as the two teams were tied 3-3 at the break.
Strathmore were businesslike in the second half, going over the tryline twice with tries from Muita and Philemon Olang. Muita contributed two conversions with Andrew Matoka drilling home two penalties before Fidels scored a penalty for Suburbs, 23-6 the score at full time, Strathmore making a return to the Kenya Cup.
Over in Kakamega, visiting Mean Machine went 6-0 up through Festus Shiasi’s boot. He first drilled home a penalty before adding a drop goal but hosts MMUST responded through Tyson Juma’s try and conversion for a shortlived 7-6 lead.
Shiasi’s second drop goal gave Machine a 9-7 lead at the interval.
Shiasi then drilled home a penalty as Machine went 12-7 up but Venance Shikuba landed a try, Timothy Mmasi converting to put MMUST 14-12 up.
Mmasi then scored and converted his try at the death,the 21-12 result securing a maiden Kenya Cup appearance for the boys from Lurambi
