Thika Head Coach Peter Mutai was an elated man after his side’s first ever Kenya Cup win on Saturday 20 February 2016.
Speaking after his team’s 27-11 bonus point win over the Kenya Sharks at the Nakuru Athletic Club, Mutai, a former Kenyan international scrum half and three-time Kenya Cup winner with KCB between 2005 and 2007 said, “ We are very happy with the win. We struggled and were wasteful in the first half but I told the boys to stuck to our structures and the game plan, and as you can see, we had a better second half and took home the points. Kudos to the boys.”
The team, making its debut in the Kenya Cup after winning last season’s second tier Nationwide League, had lost its previous eleven outings. The result saw Thika climb to 12th on the standings, swapping places with three time Kenya Cup champions Mean Machine who are now 13th on the log.
