Three matches are likely to hog the headlines as the Kenya Cup enters match day 7 on Saturday 22 January 2022.
The Strathmore Leos – Menengai Oilers clash is one of these fixtures. The two sides are enjoying a fine run of form and are both on course to make the playoffs with five rounds of the regular season still to play. Louis Kisia’s Leos lie third on the log, having lost just once in their six outings to date while Gibson Weru’s Oilers currently lead the standings, having won all six of their matches thus far. Brunson Madigu, Bethuel Anami and Arnold Muita are some of the key players for Strathmore heading into this clash while Oilers will look to skipper Chrispine Shitundo, the experienced Samson Onsomu as well as the industrious duo of Austin Sikutwa and Timothy Okwemba to deliver the goods for them when the two sides face in Madaraka.
The second clash is at the bottom of the table where a couple of former champions clash in Nakuru. 2013 and 14 champions Topfry Nakuru are firmly entrenched at the bottom of the standings in what has been a forgettable campaign so far. Winless after six matches, they must post a victory against ten time champions Resolution Impala Saracens if they are keep their survival hopes alive. Impala, currently placed second from bottom, are fresh from posting their first win of the season against Blak Blad and will be out to win a second match on trot, a result that could lift them out of the relegation zone.
The third match pits Blak Blad and Nondescripts at the Kenyatta University. While these two sides may not be in the relegation zone, they are not yet safe. The side that wins this fixture could potentially be safe heading into the final rounds of the regular season.
Other matches taking place on match day seven see Kabras Sugar up against Kenya Harlequin in Kakamega, Homeboyz against Mwamba at Jamhuri while champions KCB host Masinde Muliro in Ruaraka.
