Over the weekend, the leaderboard of the KRU Championship underwent a shift following the conclusion of match day 7. The competition for securing home semifinal qualification, as well as securing a spot in the Top 6 playoffs, remains intense with four rounds of the regular season still ahead.
At present, Daystar Falcons, Masinde Muliro, South Coast Pirates, and Impala are all in contention for the top two spots and consequently, home semifinal qualification. Daystar Falcons reclaimed the top position with a convincing 29-13 victory over hosts Impala at the Impala Club, while Masinde Muliro secured an 18-16 win away to Kabarak University. Both teams are tied on 24 points, with Daystar leading the standings due to their superior for/against difference.
Impala and South Coast Pirates, who had no fixtures this weekend, are also tied on 23 points. However, Impala holds the third position owing to their superior for/against difference.
While the current top four teams have secured their places in the Top 6 playoffs, the competition remains fierce for the final two slots. Realistically, this battle is between Western Bulls, University of Eldoret Trojans, JKUAT Cougars, and Mean Machine. The upcoming four rounds promise to be thrilling.
Western Bulls, who secured a 34-16 victory at home against Mombasa, currently sit fifth with 14 points. Meanwhile, University of Eldoret Trojans, who suffered a 16-10 home defeat against Mean Machine, hold the sixth and final Top 6 playoff spot with 10 points.
Kabarak (10 points), JKUAT Cougars (9 points), Mombasa (8 points), Mean Machine (6 points), and USIU Martials (4 points) complete the standings in the second tier.
