Mean Machine started the new Kenya Cup campaign on a high, by their standards at least, suffering a narrow 13-14 loss to defending champions Kabras Sugar at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday 5 November 2016. They have since suffered four successive losses and sit at the bottom of the Kenya Cup log with just the solitary point gained in that match day one loss to Kabras.
John Mbai’s charges are tasked with replicating match day one’s performance, probably even take it a notch higher when they host the sugar millers at the UoN Ground on Saturday 10 December 2016. It will be a huge ask for the three time Kenya Cup champions whose last title came way back in 1990. Rene Inyanga and Treasure Odundo have been consistent standout performers for Eschuma Absolut and will once again be called upon to lift the rest of their team mates.
Kabras Sugar have quietly worked their way into fourth place on the log, boasting five wins from five outings but hard done by the dearth of bonus points and Saturday’s encounter could just be the perfect opportunity for Mike Bishop’s men to not only win a sixth match in a row but record their first bonus points of the season. Even with captain Max Adaka serving a six week ban, Kabras still have a plethora of talent to choose from as they continue with their quest for a successful Kenya Cup defense.
